Tierra de bandoleros. El Camino Inglés

Land of bandits. The English Way

During the Romantic period, Andalusia was a favourite destination for travellers, with Ronda standing out among its historic cities. The journey from Gibraltar to Ronda was an adventurous journey that revealed unique cultural aspects of southern Europe.

The “English Way”, one of the riskiest, was popular with these travellers. On their way, they encountered muleteers, smugglers, and bandits, figures that added an air of danger and adventure to the journey.

These characters, from the crude muleteers to idealized bandits such as José María “el Tempranillo”, were integral to the travel experience, adding an element of excitement and sometimes dread to romantic adventure in Andalusia.
